On January 23, 2018, according to the Official Journal of the European Union, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2018/98 amending Annex II (List of Food Additives Approved for Food) and Annex III (List of Food Additives Approved for Food Additions, Food Flavors, Nutrients, etc.) Of Regulation (EC) No.1333/2008. According to Annex II and III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, calcium sorbate (E203), a substance authorized for use as a preservative in various foods, as well as a food coloring agent and a food flavoring agent, was removed from the list of food additives after reassessment. This Regulation shall enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and shall apply from 12 August 2018 in order to enable food operators to adapt to new requirements or to find alternatives to calcium sorbate.
